Understanding Baby Blues, Postpartum Mood Disorders, Bringing Baby Home

I am excited to be able to offer this two day class at Well Rounded Maternity Center in August. Bringing Baby Home is based on research from more than 3,000 couples that have participated in the Gottman Institute’s workshop. It is dedicated to improving the quality of life for babies and children by strengthening their families. This program is perfect for those who are:

  • Interested in having a baby
  • Expecting a baby
  • Already parenting an infant or toddler (age 0-3)

The goal of BBH is to equip you with the knowledge and skill sets needed to constructively cope with the various stresses and changes that typically occur during those first three years after your baby is born.

In the workshop, you and your partner, which is not restricted to any particular person – close friend, parent, anyone who is going to be a significant person in both your and your child’s life – will learn how to do the following:

  • Strengthen your friendship
  • Increase intimacy and affection
  • Work through conflict with greater ease
  • Reduce hostility
  • Create positive baby-child interactions
  • Ensure quality involvement for both partners
  • Reduce the incidence or severity of postpartum mood disorders

The program teaches what to expect during the transition to parenthood, regarding your relationship with each other and your new relationship with your child. It will also help you do things like:

  • Better understand child development
  • Create co-parenting strategies with your partner
  • Improve the way you and your partner communicate, connect and compromise
  • Recognize signs of postpartum mood disorders and gain awareness of treatment options
